雙語解漢字: Chinese Characters 22-door（門）

Just as 戶symbolises a one-leafed door,so 門represents a door with two leaves.Doors provide exits and entrances,but not all are convenient,as exemplified in the proverb: “The door of charity is hard to open,and hard to shut. ”To simplify matters,the regular door:門has now been stripped,down to an open doorway:門.

“門”字象門的樣子，本義是雙扇門。甲骨文的“戶”字，象門的一半。“戶”的本義就是裝在出入口、可以開關的單扇門板。古時候一扇門板叫“戶”，兩扇門板叫“門”。在堂室東面的叫“戶”，在宅區域的叫“門”。

Building a Cart Behind Closed Doors

In ancient times,there was a man who wanted to make a fine chariot.But,instead of learning how to make one from experts,he shut himself up at home and worked on it alone.Despite the time and effort he spent on it,the chariot was useless.

This idiom is used metaphorically to mean being too subjective and disregarding the rest of the world. 

閉門造車

古語里“閉門造車”的含義和現在不一樣，在古語里，“閉門造車”是稱讚“出門合轍”的巧妙，是說雖然是閉門造的車，但是拿出門去使用的時候，卻能和車轍完全適合，這是因為有一定的規格、尺寸做標準的緣故。古代的車，兩輪之間的距離是固定的，符合規格，就能合轍。所以叫做“閉門造車，出門合轍”。而今天所謂的“閉門造車”，卻是譏諷“出門不能合轍”、脫離實際了。

現今的“閉門造車”，指不切合實際，一味主觀杜撰，好比關起門來在家裡製造戰車，完全不考慮門外的實際情況和實際需要，結果就不合規格，不能適用。
